As someone who has struggled with mental health for most of his life, Yechan wants to help those that experience mental illness through his music. He grew up in a community that dismissed mental illness to be “a phase” or “just a bad day” and discouraged to openly talk about such things. So, for many years he buried his own and developed a substance abuse problem along the way. Yechan struggled with depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, addiction, self-injury, and suicidal thoughts. Thankfully, he was able to get sober with the help of friends and music. Yechan is now driven to express his feelings and stories that were once bottled away through the songs he makes. He is currently working on an album focused on his personal experience with mental health. In the meantime, he performs for organizations that address mental health and de-stigmatize the perceptions society has on mental illness.

We had our carnival games for our members appreciation day a few weeks ago and as soon as Yechan came and started singing everyone stopped playing games and came to see him singing and playing his guitar. He was amazing!

His voice is great! I was so happy that he agreed to perform for our largest fundraising event at Angel Stadium.
